Sometimes, just not all the time...

Should we eat less sugar? Maddy conducted some research during reading time today, and her answer is yes.

"We should stop eating so much sugar because it is bad food and rots parts of your body. If you eat too much sugar you can get heart disease and diabeties. Sugar can affect your attitude and make you hypo. Children should have no more than 4 tsp of sugar per day. That's about one muffin. Women should have no more than 7-8 tsp of sugar per day. Men should have no more than 9-10 tsp per day.

You should only have sugar on special occasions like Halloween and birthday parties. If you have a party, tell your caregiver to put some healthy snack on the table. Even on hot, hot days, not all the time you can have an icecream or iceblock.

To stop your problems like heart disease and diabeties, you can go on a diet and do workouts. You see that you lose quite a lot of kilos. Remember, you can eat some sugar sometimes, just not all the time.

Newspaper News Term 3

Newspaper News
For oral language on Fridays this term we will be looking at positive pictures and stories from the newspaper/ community newspapers or online sources and discussing the news items.
All children will have a turn at sharing their newspaper news. Please help your child to find one that is appropriate. We will notify your child the week before it is their turn. The children will need to know the main ideas of the article to be able to retell them to the class. They could write 3 - 5 sentences as a summary of the article so they can share it to the rest of the class. We will be focusing on questioning using the 5 W’s (where, what, when, why, who). They will also need to have 2 questions prepared to ask their audience. We can't wait to learn some interesting facts or find out some important information about the world around us!

Here are some websites that could help:

Dojo Spending Fun day tomorrow!

Hi everyone,

Just letting you know that tomorrow (Wednesday) is our term dojo-point spending day, where children get to "cash in" the dojo points they have earned all term for showing our school values and completing top quality work.

The children have voted for the activities they would like to do as a reward for their top effort, and the following have been decided upon:

- Bring a favourite game to school. This could be a board game, or toy.
- Fidget spinners are allowed in class from 11.30 - 12.30
- There'll be a craft table for children to make things
- We'll watch a movie from 1.30 - 2.45pm accompanied by popcorn.

It should be a lot of fun! Make sure games and toys that are bought are clearly named, so that nothing precious goes missing.

The last Monday of Term 2

This morning the Caterpillar reading group performed "Puss in Boots" for the Room 2 readers. They read with expression and confidence!

We had a small furry visitor this morning - Connor's pet rabbit Marshmellow. He hopped around the circle saying hello to the Discoverers.

Cross Country Zones this Tuesday

Kia ora whanau,
