Dr Suess's Magic Dough - Maths Time - Room 1

Today in maths we looked at measuring solids and liquids.

Room 2 Mathematicians at Work

Room 2 mathematicians created this great work of mathematical art on their floor.  Luckily our usual cleaner was away that day. 😅

Maths class today: We covered transformation, symmetry and reflection, as well as introducing degrees and compass points.  Well done room 2 mathematicians! Good work.

A Poem by Maya

"Walkies!"...I call in my highest pitched voice
and his legs go all silly like they haven't a choice
and his tail waggles madly as he scoots across the floor,
winding around like a rudder til we are steered out the door.

Then the cool morning air hits his nose and without a sound,
he vacuums it up as he sniffs all around
and he just can't decide on the best way to go.
So I have to say "Here boy!" to show that I know
and sometimes he runs off to hunt down a scent
and I huff and I puff just to see where he went.

And I have to be quick because I know he has forgotten
that Mum doesn't like it when he rolls in things rotten!
Then when we get home I collapse on the chair
and he gives me those eyes like to say it's not fair
and I tell him that walks cannot go on for ever
and I know that he knows because he's terribly clever.

Technology Shoe Challenge (ShoeTec) - Discoverer's 1

On Thursday, all the students in Room 1 and 2 were put in teams of 3 and challenged to make a shoe!  The shoe had to stay on when walking across the deck, then it had to stay on when running across the deck.  It was judged on functionality, manufacture, and special features, and an extra point was awarded for team work.

The winning teams were in equal first place:

James, Maya, Isaac
Kai, Adelle, Oliver
Morgan, Madoc, Louise

Here are a selection of photos of the creations.

Dear Rosie

Hi everyone

Unfortunately, it appears that dear Rosie has come to the end of her stay with us.  We have spoken to the children and explained that 9 is very old in bunny years and to think about the great retirement she has had with us up here.  She has given and received so much love from the children and visitors, and has been such an amazing character.  We have appreciated all the support, vegies, and love from your homes as well.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kate and Heather

The Cat in the Hat by Eric M

Yesterday I saw a cat
and guess what?
It was in a hat!

You'd think it was probably sad,
but it turned out it was
with a rat.

They told me
they were friends.
And now this ends.

Below are 2 examples of our work, one with a photo of your child and one without.

Feel free to come and have a look at them in class if you have time.

Production Update

1 September

Tena koutou whanau, caregivers of nga tamariki of St Martins School.

We are 3 weeks away from our extravaganza of Seussical Jr. The school is a-buzz with all things Seuss! Seussical inspired writing, Seussical raps, Seussical artwork, costuming, acting, musical theatre, singing.....it is all about Dr Seuss!

We are performing at Hillview Christian School, and using their amazing auditorium facility. It is so great that we can use this great venue, and it is in our local community area.

We will be walking to and from Hillview from school for rehearsals - so your child will need a raincoat and or/umbrella, in their bag, all week, as we will be walking down, rain or shine.

As our production is a full school production, it is expected that your child will perform both nights - so that they can shine on stage!

Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of Week 8 (next week). Our amazing office team will be attending to the box office sales. Get in quick - as tickets will be limited to 500 per night. There will be four shows - two matinees and two night performances.

You might like to help with walking us down and back from Hillview as we will be needing adult to student ratios to be met.
You might like to help us with taking props and set down on the afternoon on Monday 24th September.

You might like to help us set up the stage space on the Tuesday 25th September morning. You might like to help us pack out on the Thursday 27th September evening.
If you can help in anyway, please let your child’s classroom teacher know. We are super excited and so ready to hit the stage!
