We had a wonderful day learning about flora and fauna and exploring Victoria Park with the CCC crew today.
Our Trip to Victoria Park
by Mason Bates Room 1/ Raupo
First we were in the Visitor's Centre where Celia showed us maps of how Banks Peninsula used to be covered in native forest, tussock land and bush.
Secondly, we went to some tables and we had to figure out which animal was which by looking at it's footprints and scat. One was a rat, a rabbit, and a possum. Ranger John has a stuffed stoat, possum, wild cat and a dead wood pigeon as examples.
Then we went into the forest and we used mirrors to see what birds see when they fly.
Finally we went back to the carpark and played a really fun game called Disappearing Trees.
It was a great day for learning how to care for nature.
